The media and the cyberspace are two things in this world today that the children needs . It offers valuable things that traditional ways of communicating can not give such as speedy connections , accessibility ease and breeze of use , convenience , low costs , and a lot more . In addition to this , it is also a fun activity for the children
There are people who do not share the same belief as posed here Studies have shown that violence in the television and pornography in the Internet affects the way children develop socially , academically and mentally . They have considered the advances in media technology and the cyberspace as villains in the performance of children in school This author believes otherwise
When the cyberspace and the media are used in a sensible way , it could even show great benefits for the academic performance of children and the way they deal with things . This was clearly proven in a study conducted by Jackson , von Eye , Biocca , Barbatsis , Zhao , and Fitzgerald (2006 ) of the Michigan State University . This study involved 140 children residing in a midsize urban community in the Midwestern United States (Jackson et al , 2006 . The average age of the children was 13 .8 years old , median was 13 years old and the mode was 12 years old (Jackson et al , 2006 . The results showed that after one year of exposure to the internet , there was an increase in the Grade Point Average (GPA ) of the children (Jackson et al , 2006 These were tested and it was subjected to statistical computations
