CHAPTER TWO : LITERRATURE REVIEW I . Introduction Organizational competitiveness can be achieved through effective management of human capital assets with the integration of organizational culture and project management , leadership , and motivation . Thus , managers are now learning to maximize the potential of human resources (Light , 1997 ) for growth , greatest flexibility , and cost effectiveness by understanding individual differences and their needs This study explores the relationship between personality types and individual motivation in enhancing job performance . This chapter reviews related literature regarding theories of motivation and personality types inventory models . It also

seeks to answer whether people 's motivation can be determined by certain personality traits
II . Measures and Types of Personality Traits
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (R (MBTI
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI ) helps explain personality types in developing cognitive , management , relationships , and communication skills strategies . It presents the eight types of personality traits in dichotomous scales such as extroversion-introversion (E-I sensing-intuition (S-N thinking-feeling (T-F and judging-perceiving (J-P . MBTI results are expressed in four letter combination of sixteen possible types for each person . The letter combination indicates a person 's preferences but it does not mean that one is better or worse than the other types (Myers Myers , 1980
According to Hilliard (2001 , the E-I scale explains people 's focus of attention . Extraverts (E ) focus on interpersonal and social relationships and activities . They love to be or work with other people talk or socialize , organize or participate in group activities , work on jobs requiring physical activities or complex processes , and they function well while they talk and they can be good followers or leaders Introverts (I ) focus on intrapersonal communication . They need time and space and prefer to be alone in most instances although they can be sociable . They love to reflect and contemplate about their feelings thoughts and memories as well as to have a deep understanding the world The S-N scale suggests people 's means of learning , acquiring knowledge and dealing and handling information . Sensing (S ) individuals utilize their senses in perceiving and receiving information which is usually tangible , realistic or actually present . They love to observe people things , ideas and events around them and they focus on details Intuitive (N ) individuals love to figure out patterns or relationships of information that are conceptual or theoretical in nature . They are good in dealing with possibilities and the future . They tend to generalize things are good at impressions and intuition . Their focus is They would rather think than do . The T-F scale explains people 's way of evaluating things , making decisions , and arriving at conclusions Thinking (T ) individuals seek to identify analytical , rational , and logical consequences certain actions , decisions or choices . They think critically and identify what went wrong or what can be done to solve a problem . Their head rules their heart for they value fairness , reasons and truth over considerations and feelings toward others .
