Personal Statement

Pursuing one 's opportunities given to an individual only comes several times that is why one must grab the situation and use it to for his /her development . Seeing this , every opportunity that comes knocking on ones door must be taken seriously . It must be properly accommodated and given a personal touch of perseverance and hard work . It is only through this that a person can attain the success that he /she envisions

Seeing such scenario , I , Beatrice Dazouloute , would like to apply for a Masters degree in social work . I will try

to first start this statement by elaborating on several goals that are related to the field and has captivated my interest in social work . One goal by far I consider to be important revolves on the issue of respect . Being in social work entails a lot of blending and accommodating with cultures , races and that are by far new to me . By being objective in my every stance and action can create a harmonious relationship with my peers and effectively foster the needed changes . It is only through respecting other people 's opinions that I can successfully merge the barriers brought about by prejudice and inequality

Lastly , I also consider the element of competency as an important factor in the field of social work . As a social servant , one must be responsible in creating and advocating several important measures and projects that can uplift lives among other people . But such requires competency and responsibility with the social worker . He /she must serve as the catalyst for change . Without competency , such endeavor can only be half-hearted or finished . By doing so , it creates responsiveness and a collective action among concerned groups and organizations for the welfare of the victims

One important issue in social service that continues to captivate and inspire me revolves around child abuse . I feel disheartened when I hear news reports of children abused and molested by parents or other individuals . These criminals take away the dignity in children and somehow deprive them of their dreams and aspirations in life . By being able to take part in this masters program , I wish to work in an organization that caters to children who were victims of abuse . Maybe with the amount of knowledge and information I gathered during study and my relative experience in social work , I may shed an important development and bring back their lives that were shattered by such incident

Seeing this , I intend to apply at Barry University School of Social Work to actively increase my knowledge and experience as far as social work is concerned . I believe that with the University 's capable faculty and its capability to produce efficient and effective graduates , I may be able to shed a new hope to these victims . With this degree , I can further my cause to other people and help create awareness of such horrendous reality
