Personal Statement for a Teaching Fellowship with NYC
Edited version 3 NYSC Why do you want to become a teacher Tears of gratitude rush into my eyes when I think of my aged grandmother .She is responsible for the person I am today . Eight years of struggle to complete my Bachelors are behind me .I must have been a dropout but I had proper guidance and mentoring and I am here today . I know that there are many more in the world who are less fortunate than me . I wish to help these people without guides and this is precisely why

br I want to become a teacher
Both my aunts are teachers . One teaches students with special needs and learning disabilities in elementary school and the other teaches middle school English . My two closest friends are also teachers I am inspired by their approach to the profession and have also heard their narrations of experiences with different kinds of students
These are some more influences that have had a significant role in my choice
As a teacher I would be able to help and enrich the lives of other students .I did not have parents to love and cherish me but I had a grandmother and a mentor Mr . Alfredo de la Rosa .He was my band director .These two people were of timely moral support to me . I have great regard for my Professor Donna who helped me identify my passion for politics .She directed me in choosing my subjects and completing my Bachelors . All this has aided my personal growth and self development
As a teacher I would look forward to see a student succeed and shine in life .If I know that I have contributed in some small way to his happiness that would be my greatest soul satisfaction
The most important responsibility of a teacher is to ensure high academic achievement for all students . Describe a skill or ability that you have that will help you reach this goal . Provide an example of how you have effectively used this skill or ability in the past
How can a teacher ensure high academic achievement for all students ? It can be done if the teacher has the following attributes - capacity to motivate , an unprejudiced open mind , sensitivity , patience to direct the student in the right path and the desire to help the student . The student must ultimately work to his capacity and succeed .I have seen what it is to motivate and guide students in the right path .A teacher has to be sensitive to the student 's needs and difficulties . I myself am a person who had to undergo a lot of emotional stress and trauma at a very young age . There was a time when I did not feel like meeting people and I shut myself up with an unreasonable hatred for dark-skinned people . I had been bullied a lot by these students in my elementary school . I developed a fear against black /colored skin people since these were the people who picked on...
