Personal Statement for Residency Application

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I want to be the best doctor I can be . I remember in third grade I was doctoring ' my

family with a fake stethoscope , fake injections and a reflex hammer

Then in college while I worked as an EMS I found that the limitations of EMS

personal reaffirmed my desire to become a doctor . I wanted to do so much more to help

the patient During medical school three things stand out that will shape me into the type of

doctor I want to be The

first was a class assignment . We were given a case history to analyze . Then we

wrote up our diagnosis , our reasoning and the support of our reasoning

Out of a class of over 340 students my case write-up was chosen to be outstanding and

I was given a personal letter from the SGU Pathology Chairman The second thing that will stay with me forever is the time I spent at the Bel-Air

Children 's Home which houses approximately thirty-five abandoned or orphaned

children ranging from a few months old to teenagers . As a volunteer , I organized weekly

visits , provided some toys and food , and raised awareness campus wide which resulted

in a greater involvement by the SGU community . I also organized fundraisers and

collected and donated 5000 . I was amazed at how excited these children were to have

us visit . How happy they were to receive a slice of pizza and a toy . How something as
