All in a Day 's Dream

Brring .brriiing .briiiing

I was having a good dream wherein I was in a sunny beach making sand castles and laughing at my sister who could not get out of the sand I buried her in , and then the loud shriek of the alarm clack broke through my sunny dream . I rubbed my eyes to look closely at the clock 's face and realized it was almost seven in the morning . Reluctantly , I got up and made my bed , then I looked around me and silently uttered

a small thank you Lord , for it has never ceased to amaze me that I am so blessed to be alive and to have the best family in the world

I showered and after dressing went downstairs , Mom was already in the kitchen table and my light buttered toast and orange juice was already on my place and my lunch bag was beside it . I greeted my mother good morning and she kissed me on the forehead . Then my father joined us for breakfast and he asked me again what I wanted to take up in college . My reply was still the same , I wanted to be a pharmacist , again for the nth time he looked at me with his quirky eyes and smiled So your mind is made up then ' To which I replied Yes , I am going to be a pharmacist

As I grabbed my things and waited for the bus to take me to school , I again played in my head my favorite story of love and of triumph over difficulties and which have never failed to inspire me to be the best that I can be and to strive harder to achieve my dreams

A young girl looked over her shoulder and with tears streaming on her eyes said goodbye to the only land that she knew . She was on travel aboard a small boat to Miami to escape the hard life in Cuba , she was scared and sorely missed the friends she left behind but at least she was thankful that her parents and all her siblings were with her as they embarked on a new life in a foreign country . She had heard so much of America and how life would be better here compared to Cuba , and she was looking forward to going to school , to having new friends and maybe finally be happy with her family . She did not know then what was in store for her . She first set foot on American soil in a dark and wet night in 1970 they had to be taken to a shelter and stayed there for almost a week before they had their own place to make their home . Their first apartment was a cramped basement with no room divisions , a hearth was fashioned by her father was they could cook their meals .
