Essential needs may come from different aspects such as economic stability of living and civil rights and liberties . Essential needs are needs that need to be granted . These needs are what most thinkers view in philosophy as what makes a man truly human . There is always a call inside man that endures and this call is

to finds ways to cater his essential needs . A human being 's mind is so rich . This richness enables him to conceptualize new ideas and means that are catalysts for change . Because of the endowed gift of thinking , many great philosophers were able to arrive at means that made society a better place to live . Change is a product of the unceasing desire of man to achieve a state that makes his life achieve his own essence

This will dwell on different philosophers and thinkers that made an indelible mark in the process of societal and political change . Their philosophies are the ones made life better for many people who desired freedom and equity from a society of injustice , slavery and inequity They are Martin Luther King Jr and Mahatma Ghandi

BRIEF BACKGROUND OF THE TWO PHILOSOPHERS

Dr . Martin Luther King Jr was born in Atlanta , Georgia . He graduated from Morehouse College in 1948 , Theological Seminary in 1951 and Boston University of his Ph .D . in 1955 . He is a son of a pastor from the Ebnezer Baptist Church and was ordained in 1947 and became the Baptist Church of Montgomery , Ala minister . He also became a civil-rights leader by the time the Montgomery buses began to operate

King was known for his philosophy of non-violent resistance . His constant devotion to his philosophy led to his number of arrests in the 1950s and 1960s . In Birmingham , Ala in 1953 , he led a protest that gave him a worldwide attention . He led a march in 1963 which brought more than 200 ,000 people together . He was also awarded a Noble Peace Prize in 1964 . His movement on civil rights widened that even included criticisms on the Vietnam War and a deeper emphasis on the problem of poverty . He was known to be an influential leader that made a significant contribution to the lives of the American people up to the present

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2 , 1869 and died on January 30 , 1948 . He was the Indian Independence Movement leader and known as the father of the nation . His greatness influenced the liberation of India . Aside from being a political leader , he was also a spiritual . Ha was known to banner a life which is in absence of material longings . His philosophy was the great commitment to truth and non-violent act
