In literature , postcolonialism is usually defined as a collection of theories that tackles the cultural heritage of colonial rule . Thus basically Postcolonialism in a literary theory concerns itself with the literature created in countries which are still in colonial power . It also concerns itself with literature printed in colonial nations and by their inhabitants that has colonized people as its theme . Colonized people produced new criticisms which , for the most part , are literary Post colonialism concerns itself with the cultural identity of the colonized

This includes the problems of building a national identity after being subjected from a colonial rule , the behaviors in which authors express and commemorate cultural identity , how the colonized people 's awareness , wisdom and knowledge were utilized , and the conducts in which the colonist 's literature validates colonialism by means of metaphors of the colonized as a continually mediocre or inferior person , civilization , and culture . Postcolonialism is often misinterpreted as a temporal or sequential concept (the time after colonialism ended , the time when a nation cut itself loose from the colonizer , etc . These speculations were only some part of what postcolonialism really is . Postcolonialism also includes the commitment with and challenges of colonialism 's dialogues , power structures , as well as social s or hierarchies . Therefore , postcolonialism does not merely involves its self with the temporal assembly or understanding of post-independence . It also tackles various problems or issues faced by the colonizer and the colonized alike

Postcolonialism heartens ideas about the colonized resourceful defiance against the colonizer , and how that defiance causes difficulties and gives consistency to imperial colonial schemes

Orientalism is a study conducted be Westerners about the Near and Far Eastern society , culture language , and people . Orientalism carries negative beliefs by some people in that they views this as a study conducted by the West to that of the East which were usually tinged with biases .
