Drugs and possible terrorist attacks have been a major concern of the United States , and in their efforts to control the problem , lawmakers and administrations of every level in the government have turned to racial profiling . The method was considered to narrow a large number of suspected terrorists and drug traffickers down to a number of races specifically African Americans , Latinos , South Asians , Muslims , and

Arabs . But racial profiling is not something new in American soil it is rather a new face to many decades of racism and discrimination of foreign origins

The premise of racial profiling is the belief that most law offenses are committed by minority groups , which is a myth , however , often disregarded ( HYPERLINK "http /www .aclu .org " www .aclu .org . A black ' or brown ' is no more likely to break the law than any other white ' but it seems that the simple difference of melatonin in the skin determines which race usually commits crime

The problem with racial profiling is the fact that it is subject to someone 's point of view or opinion without substantial evidence against the suspected committers of crime , except of his or her race , religion or ethnicity . It also has negative effects not only to the people who have had their selves in such excruciating position but also to the whole state of the country

One significant and perhaps a potentially long-lasting impact of racial profiling can be found in the context of a simple classroom . Children from minority groups are perceived to be slow learners and instigators of conflict at school . Who has the right to even think that a whole race has inferior abilities anyway ? Even the innocent youth are not exempted from the harsh realities of society . This discernment is often shown in the media : in movies , news , sitcoms . Often , African Americans are exposed of drug trafficking , bringing guns in school , smoking pots stealing , you name it . Such media coverage further perverts the image of minority groups . And the sad truth is , people almost always believe what they see on television

Treating children , little innocent beings who have no knowledge whatsoever of racism , based on this wrongful perception may lead them to lose interest in education , drop-out from school because of teachers humiliating acknowledgements on their intelligence and capabilities lower their self-esteem and doubt their own abilities . They also become more prone to bullying which is very common among youngsters . All of this darkens a child 's view of his environment , and at such young age he or she gains knowledge of the cruel world when it 's their job to have fun and enjoy life while young .
