The Indifferent Citizen

He is a sensitive man of moderate income

happy with a moderately nagging wife and

a stubborn son of average merit .He has never . felt the urge to join the rat race as he is happy

Without it . His friends call his an under-achiever

And he doesn 't mind their criticism . He 's a citizen

Of twenty-first century , and is addicted to all sorts of gadgets

He has a cell-phone , and laptop and i-pod for his need and

his pleasure . He 's lucky

to have a competent manager

who runs his business and a moderately beautiful secretary

who manages his office s . He does his duty to all , but

no body thinks he 's a clever man who should be at the top

His office life is no better than his home life

For he didn 't build his business nor toiled for its success

He 's very much like the man who gets his cooked food unasked

He looks poised and serene , not because he 's philosophical

But because he doesn 't feel strong emotions

therefore doesn 't shout and swear in the playground

Is he a model citizen ? He 's least bothered about it

Is he then a machine ? No . He feels attracted to women

The murder and terror frighten him and he 's filled with pity

But he feels like a prisoner in a fort in which he works

and moves about without any control over its activities

But like other citizens he shows no interest in vote and politics

For he has a hunch that politicians of different parties will

Come and go , but nothing will alter the fate of the people

The young soldiers will be sacrificed abroad for the coveted booty

He hates the business of war and wonders who the hell invented it

He wonders why the people all over the world

disown the warmongers , and choose those who love to live in peace

He isn 't clever enough to know the answer . Are we...
