People , Power and Politics Historically speaking , apart from the Native Americans , the entire population has immigrant origin . The normal view about immigrants had been that they wish to be accepted by the dominant Anglo-Saxon population over period of time . In the process of their cultural marriage each group contributed to the national culture in their own way . But the rigidity of the dominant culture continued to refuse and reject the unfamiliar cultural practices . This arrogant anti-migrant psychology was more evident in the work places . This anti human approach resulted into the Civil Rights movement of 1960 's but this struggle failed to deliver goods to the society in general and gave rise to a strong feeling to strive for a separate identity , which has been rightly discussed by Stephen Steinberg in The Ethnic Myth to affirm their right to a separate identity within the frame work of a pluralist nation
In the race of this racial discrimination the American society largely divided into two categories - The Black and The White
Andrew Hacker in his book Two Nations while discussing the cultural behavior of these two groups argues that black and white live in two different worlds and he has tried to prove his feelings that America is a state of inequality , hostility and separatism .
