Date PCP (Phencyclidine ) is a drug which was developed in the 1950s as an intravenous anesthetic however its human use was cut short because it had negative side effects on patients . These side effects included agitation , delusion irritation

Today , PCP is abused because it causes mind altering hallucination effects once it 's taken by individuals of all ages . The PCP is a bitter white crystalline powder that easily dissolves in water or any alcohol

According to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse , it 's estimated that 6 million US residents aged 12 and older have used PCP once in their lifetime . The survey further revealed that , teenagers young adults abuse the substance , as individuals aged between 12-17 225 ,000 of them were found to have used the substance , while individuals ages between 18-25 , 777 ,000 of them used the drug at least once . It 's also estimated that more than 3 of high schools seniors in the US have used the substance and more than 1 of them used the drug in their past year according to the University of Michigan 's monitoring the future survey . PCP is an addictive drug and its risks include psychological dependence , craving compulsive behavior . The psychological effects are unpleasant and users are often violent or suicidal .
