The First Epistle of Paul to Timothy

The first Epistle of Paul to Timothy is a letter . An ancient form of letter used by Paul to communicate timeless truths to his son in faith who , at the time of the writing was a young leader in a church in an ancient trading center called Ephesus

The Author

A little backgrounder is in to fully appreciate this letter . It was from a man who in an older life was called Saul - a nickname that

he might as well want everybody to forget for the Christian Bible tells us that he was once a persecutor of the faith . And he was no ordinary persecutor pronouncing curses and campaigning against the new religion His tactics includes murder as seen in the way he orchestrated the death of Stephen and also as seen in the book of Acts - a narrative on his desire to expand his operations to the whole Roman world

Yet , through a miracle Saul got converted to Christianity and his name was changed to Paul and it is this new identity that he used to sign all his Epistles including this one

Even though Paul was not part of the original twelve apostles his stature - irregardless of his past - reached the level of that of Peter and John . In fact he wrote a majority of the Epistles that can be found in the New Testament

One of the Epistles who found its way into the official list of Biblical books was Paul 's two letters to Timothy and for the purpose of identification the first one in of chronology was labeled by Christians of a later era as 1 Timothy or first Timothy

The Importance of 1 Timothy

This letter is unique and interesting in terms of revealing more about Paul 's life , character , and ministry . Other books in the Bible can teach on the major doctrines and dogmas of Christianity but only a few are means to reveal the vulnerability of Paul as a human being

If this letter was not included in the Canon of Scriptures or got lost in the turbulent decades of early Christianity then the succeeding generations of Christians would have missed a lot . First of all this is an Epistle written prior to his last and final imprisonment that led to his execution as a martyr for the faith . This letter can be considered therefore as one of his parting words . The words of a dying man are very important as everyone knows and it is of this perspective that the letter to Timothy must be considered and analyzed

This letter has been cherished through the ages not only because of the great ideas and teaching contained therein but also because it revealed the a part of Paul 's life in terms of having a son in the faith . This is a treasure throve of information on how to develop a relationship between a teacher and a...
