Introduction
Today some games especially track events are highly comprehensive field sports because of their high-paced , physically and mentally demanding nature . They combine all aspects of athletic and human performance Power , speed , strength , stabilization , eye-hand coordination , aerobic power , endurance , reaction time , coordination and strategy are many of the facets needed to play at a high level because pure talent and skill together are not enough to take the athlete to an elite level . Therefore proper comprehensive performance training is an essential ingredient that must be included in every elite player 's plan . A sport like ice hockey places great demands on players ' physical capacity . Because it has developed to be a fast transition game , where players need strength power and speed and good capacity to produce energy to be able to accommodate to different situations that vary frequently . A typical work period is short and intensive and a reasonable level of aerobic endurance capacity is needed for fast recovery within and between the games (Jenkins , 2005
One of the fastest growing and most popular types of exercise in recent years is resistance exercise , whether used for the purpose of general fitness or athletic performance , it comes in many different forms capable of producing distinctly different responses like increased size strength , power , velocity , or muscular endurance . The exercise differs from one training session to another
Training session can be described by the five acute training variables choice , volume , load or intensity of exercise and rest between exercise sessions . Each of these variables presents numerous possible combinations resulting in literally thousands of possible single-session protocols
Purpose Of Training
Over a longer training period or cycle , the training variables ought to be altered to provide the individual with the necessary variability for long-term improvement . Such variety in the long-term program helps to ensure that the body is continually being presented with a stress that permits both progress and adequate recovery . According to Jenkins in 2005 , this variation of the resistance exercise prescription also avoids the monotony that can occur when the identical exercise protocol is performed each session with little or no variation . Although often associated with training programs for advanced athletes , such training variety is also critical for the individuals on a lifetime exercise program for general fitness or other sports people but highly neglected among...
