SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1 Dear friends of the United States

It has come to our attention that your people are interested in immigrating to Earth and are considering your options in terms of locations to settle outside of your own planet . For this reason I am writing this letter to you on behalf of the citizens of this fine nation in hopes that you will consider us . Within this letter I will give you the information that your people would need to make an informed decision regarding this very important adventure that

the natives of your planet are contemplating

The United States of America is located in the northern hemisphere situated between the Pacific Ocean to its west and the Atlantic Ocean to its east . It was established as a colony of the nation of Great Britain in the 17th century and became an independent nation in 1776 . Our constitution was created at the time of the nation 's birth but has been amended throughout it 's history . The primary reason for this is that the United States has been evolving in terms of its laws since its inception . The citizens of the country are unafraid to push for change should they see an injustice taking place , and this is the reason why the Civil Rights movement spawned equality for African-Americans and the Woman 's Suffrage Movement resulted in women gaining the right to vote The people of the United States are highly political in nature and take a great deal of interest in their government and the laws by which it is governed

The economy of this country has been reliably strong throughout history , but today there are some serious problems with it that are needing to be dealt with . There is a severe crisis in the housing market due to a high rate of foreclosure . Many Americans were uniformed about adjustable rate mortgages and bought houses whose prices were inflated and took on payments that became too expensive to pay when the interest rate went up . This has seriously hurt the economy and while it is trying to get back on its feet , the high cost of oil and the low worth of the American dollar is hindering its move to a stronger economy

Another important fact to remember about the United States is that it is a very diverse nation in terms of ethnicity , race , religion and language . The United States began as a melting pot of many different people 's colonizing it , and throughout its history it has remained unique in that it was built by people of every creed , color , and religion . To be successful here in the United States it is virtually essential that the immigrants from your planet learn to speak English fluently as it is the primary language of the country however , there is a very large segment of the population that speaks Spanish because of its close proximity to South America and the large population of Spanish-speaking immigrants . Fluency in these languages will be very beneficial to any immigrants who are planning to settle in the United States . It is also important to remember that a skill is needed in for immigrants to be able to make a decent living within this nation and skilled immigrants are always welcome

As an Ambassador of the United States I must , however , prepare you for the possible tensions that immigrants from your planet may face , either directly or indirectly , upon their arrival . It is important to remember that racism is a part of everyday life for many in the country , and some Americans are often reluctant to accept immigrants . In fact , immigration is a serious issue in this country and many Americans do not feel that we should be accepting any more immigrants into our bs . For this reason , legal immigration is required and to come here the people of your planet must go through all legal means of entering our nation
