Paper Topic:

Outbreak

According to the report of CDC 's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly report in the year 2007 , there were 17 ,883 cases of food borne infections . A number of cases were seen for salmonella with an approximate incidence rate of 14 .92 per 100 ,000 people . The common infection found was campylobacter with an incidence rate of 12 .79 for every 100 ,000 people Finally shigella infection incidence rate was 6 .26 for every 100 ,000 people . These rates of infections were high in young children under the age of 5 years . The main

causes for catching these bacterial illnesses is due to children riding in a shopping cart near raw meat or poultry visit to day-care-center , living conditions of a farm or by playing with a pet turtle or any reptile

Prevalence and incidence are inter-related whereas there are different measures to describe the distribution of disease in particular area people . Prevalence measures the number of particular population at a particular period of time . The incidence measures as to how quickly the new cases of infection are detected whereas prevalence records how many people in particular disease . For example in Africa for every 100 women , 12-13 people are affected with HIV , this is incidence whereas pre-existence of HIV infection was 50 (number of HIV positive women / number of women being screened ) which is prevalence rate . An article in Global Campaign News referred that there are lower than anticipated HIV incidence Incidence and prevalence rate is calculated in chronic illnesses viz diabetes , HIV and other illnesses
