Proving true to what he is known for , Luhrman made the film as extravagant and radical as possible . This is a very huge contrast from Shakespeare 's notion of the play - which is to be purist ' in nature The director incorporated within the film lively and modern metaphors to make the film more interesting . The cinematography is also exceptional in a sense that the camera angles are very unpredictable and is always moving , restless even . The special effects and violent splashes of color may confuse the viewer in the beginning but as the story progress , it goes back on track . There are scenes however that the director was obviously trying hard to make some momentous scenes funny but the come out proved to be less impressive Moreover , what is wonderful about the movie is the script which tried very hard to stick to the original dialogues per se . The lines of the actor are very impressive because their words (specially their diction are set in old English . In conjunction with the modern mood of the film the costumes were also remarkable because they are so grand and colorful and meticulously designed . The director did not forget to highlight this detail . And what added to the impressive movie are its actors who epitomized the standard of Verona high society . The actors captured the soul of the characters . The lead actress was able to portray strength fragility and innocence whereas DiCaprio was a little less impressive from what is asked from his character...
