Hi One and All , Today let us discuss about the Incident command System (ICS . This is

a system that helps in effective disaster planning and management . I will discuss the basic organization , structure and objectives of ICS and the manner in which they would remain prepared for a disaster in the future . Besides , I would also be discussing the strengths and weaknesses of this organization in being prepared for a disaster

ICS is a disaster management system , which considers potentially hazardous and risky to develop at any time (unpredictable . This calls for the disaster management teams to be on a standby at all times . The organization has some amount of flexibility in its functions and so it can work even in response to disasters that may be of odd severity and nature (USCG , 2007

A head or an operations manager should exist for the team . Each position in the ICS team would be having a particular job title and have staff members supporting them . Each of these members would be having a role in the team and would have to ensure that the objectives of the organization are met . The ICS has mainly 3 sections , namely , the planning section , the operations section and the logistics section . The planning section contains a resource unit , a documentation section and a statistical section . The operations section would be consisting of a law-enforcement section , fire support division , EMS division and public welfare sectors . The main objective of the ICS is to locate the presence of victims or survivors , help lower their suffering and allow them to get back to normal as early as possible . These tasks have to be enabled economically , efficiently and effectively . The tasks have to be completed within a stipulated time , ensuring that the resources are consumed without wasting them . Studies have demonstrated that ICS is an effective way of managing an organization concerned with disaster relief and rescue . The ICS should be suitable for use in that particular country . The ICS system should be able to use new technology as and when required . The system should be able to adapt to various emergency situations . The various elements of the ICS include the organization integrated communication devices , a uniform code structure scientifically prepared action plans , and an effective resource management (SARBC , 2003
