INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT : CREATIVE THINKING Introduction

Gareth Morgan once quoted , We choose and operate in environmental domains according to how we construct conceptions of who we are and what we are trying to do and we act in relation to those domains through the definitions we impose on them . The beliefs and ideas that organizations hold about who they are , what they are trying to do , and what their environment is like have a much greater tendency to realize themselves than is usually believed ' This simply means

that that the perceived relationship between an organization and its environment is also affected by the organization 's basic assumptions

The concept of organizational culture has gained wide acceptance as a way to understand human systems . The examination of organizational culture is also a valuable analytical tool in its own right . This leads us to the definition of organizational culture by Edgar Schein , one of the most prominent theorists of organizational culture ' A pattern of shared basic assumptions that the group learned as it solved its problems of external adaptation and internal integration , that has worked well enough to be considered valid and therefore , to be taught to new members as the correct way to perceive , think , and feel in relation to those problems ' In the following sections , we will be deciphering the organizational culture of a particular company on the basis of its artifacts , derived values and assumptions as depicted in the picture provided

Various Interpretations

There is this guy on the top right hand corner of the picture who has two pins on his mouth and on his hand is one long sheet of measuring tape . This can mean a few things . Firstly , that individual can be deemed to be performing an act of measuring the length of his arm with the measuring tape in hand . It is apparent in this case that one of the company cultural values is that employees are expected to be self-sufficient . They are able to gauge their own abilities and thus setting goals and targets , which are achievable . As such they are highly organized and know the next step to take to eventually attain their set forth targets . Employees also have strong internal control on what acts are deemed desirable and what are not . As such they are prudent in the way they appear to others , be it their colleagues , peers or superiors

Secondly , it may portray that in this particular organization , time is the absence and work efficiency is highly stressed . Employees concerned have no time for communication and engaged in own recreational activities such as gossiping , chitchatting . Expressiveness /communication is also limited as employees are expected to just focus on their assigned tasks and any other forms of socializing , viewpoints initiatives are not prized (The pins served as a self-make reminder that words have to be carefully crafted during conversation , if any , to prevent any undesirable repercussions especially in an organization as such where expressing one 's own view is...
