p Running Head : Organizational behavior /Human Resource Management Name University Course Tutor Date Several researchers have been interested in analyzing on whether provision of incentives and rewards in the workplace can have any impact in the field of production , among them being Author Alfie Kohn . Most of the employers and organization managers have tried provision of incentives in their firms severally with no benefits . It has been noted that , provision of incentives in the employment does not alter the employees ' behaviors . This is mainly because , when the management

br provides rewards to the employees either by giving them a certain target so that they can get certain amount , they change their performance but immediately the reward is introverted , they resume to normal performance . This is due to the fact that , it is very hard to change people 's characteristics and especially when they are working as a group . According to Kohn , rewards only alter what we do just partially but do not form the enduring assurance or promise to any action (Schneider , 2003 ,

Alfie suggested at least six main reasons as to why rewards do not work in most cases in a workplace set ups . They include : compensation should not act as a motivator at the workplace . When the employee is paid for the amount of work he or she has done , although there is an appreciation , the amount paid cannot meet all of his or her demands . If someone is paid less salary , this lowers his motivation thus low performance . On the other hand , being paid large amount of money does not imply high performance but in turn increases satisfaction to the worker Incentive chastise is another reason as to why incentives have failed . Like rewards , punishment can not motivate the employee . When one is told to accomplish a certain job and be shown what will happen to him or her , this is a direct punishment because if the target given cannot be achieved , the employee will definitely leave the work . When incentives are provided , it can be desired highly but when the reward being given becomes a conditional , it definitely reduces the workers motivation hence cannot perform effectively Rewards splits relationships is another reason as to why incentives can not work . The employees in a certain organization should be in a position to work as a group . Once the management introduces rewards , confusion and chaotic behavior start happening at the workplace . The bond of their corporation relationship then weakens and in turn , each one of them to relaxes . This especially happens when the employees in the workplace struggle for the limited incentives available . They see each of them as a hindrance to their personal success Incentive ignorance reasons is another explanation of why incentives do not work in most organizations . The managers should be in a position to realize any problem happening in the organization . When more problems occur often in the firm , manages apply provision of incentives as a substitution to give workers what they want so...
