Leadership Leadership can be defined as the art of motivating a group of individuals in to achieve a common goal or an objective Leadership and management are two terms which are often wrongly used interchangeably . Although the aim of both the leader and the manager is the same that is to organize people , but there is an enormous difference in the ways they reach that goal . A manager uses an official , rational method whilst the leader uses passion and stirs emotions A leader in to achieve a certain goal has to carry

out the three basic functions planning , deploying and controlling . Planning is the most basic step a leader needs to carry out in to achieve the goals of his /her organization . For example , if a manager of a manufacturing concern is given a task of increasing the output by 10 percent then he has to first plan that is the manager needs to answer the following questions . What are the existing resources available what are the strengths and weaknesses of different individuals ? And can the tasks be completed by increasing the number of workers or by downsizing and making use of more machinery . In short a manager has to look at all the probable scenarios that can help him in achieving a certain goal and then he /she has to select the best possible alternative by making use of his own judgment and taking inputs from the workers
