Terrorism is perhaps the leading threat to world peace , stability , and security in the 21st century . Since the turn of 20th century , the world has experienced a wide range of terrorist activities that have led to loss of thousands of life . Over the years , it has become difficult to fight terrorism due to the changing nature of organization and financing of terrorist group . Apart from the IRA which has been persistent in

carrying out terrorism in Europe , modern terrorism emerged after the end of the Second World War and since then , their organization and structural financing has changed considerably . The rise of extremist groups towards the end of the 20th century has compounded the situation and greatly changed the structural formation and operation of terrorist groups . Terrorist groups have kept pace with the emerging technology enabling them to carry sophisticated terrorist attack and use the same technology to gather finances for their operations . This has led to creation of networks both in operation and financing further strengthening the base for their operations . The structural formation of terrorist group and constant flow of finances have been identified as two main factors that have contributed to flourishing of terrorism in the world . It is not easy to fight terrorism unless there is a clear understanding of their structure to know the flow of command and source of financing
