ORGANIC AGRICULTURE , THE FLAWS AND STRENGTHS IN ITS REGULATIONS

Introduction

According to Lotter (2003 ) organic farming is a method of farming in which crop rotation , green manure , and biological pest controlled method are integrated with mechanic cultivation in to continuously maintain soil fertility and effectively control pest attacks without the use of the synthetic agriculture inputs like fertilizers and pesticides growth regulators , or any genetically modified organisms . Organic agriculture has emerged in Californian agriculture system which has impacted positively on crop production . However organic farming is highly controlled in California

and there have been arguments that the use of term organic ' in California agricultural system has not really reflected the real meaning as used in other parts . This will look at the legislation regulating organic faming in California in to understand the implications of these rules and regulation to organic faming . But first let us look at a short history of organic farming

History of organic agriculture

According to John (2006 ) the origin of organic faming can be traced 1930s and 1940s movements which relented to the conventional over reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides . Albert Howard and Rudolf Steiner are considered as fathers of organic farming with their biodynamic agriculture theory . Since then there has not been serious outlook into the viability of organic agriculture until 1970s when there as increased environmental awareness .
