Increasing population , growing consumption needs and decreasing fertility of the agricultural lands are the growing concerns of different groups of society . Different nations are running various programs in to find out solutions to these problems . Global sustainability has become one of the main concerns for them . In such case , organic food is providing solution to these problems . This starts with brief introduction to organic food . This section is

Organic Food

These foods are grown in natural ways , without the use of fertilizers insecticides and or any kind of genetic engineering . These products are produced in the most environmental friendly manner . These foods are generally priced higher than that of other non organic food . In such case it becomes challenging for the producers and marketers to encourage people t buy these products . There are various macro environmental factors which impacts the decisions of consumers . Consumers who prefer organic and environmental friendly products over the others are referred as `Green Consumers ' The issues which impacts a green consumer can vary from climate factors , pollution of various type , energy efficiency resource utilisation like water , land and other resources , global warming and sustainability and others . There is growing demand of organic products in international market with the increase in consumer awareness and interest in organic products . Purchasing power of individual consumer and his willingness to pay extra for the green organic and environmental friendly products impacts their decision making process . Organic food is defined in various ways . According to US Department of Agriculture it is defined as follows

The National Organic Standards Board of the U .S . Department of Agriculture (USDA ) created a national standard for the term organic in December 2000 . Organic food is defined by how it cannot be made instead of how it can be made . It must be grown without the use of sewer-sludge fertilizers , most synthetic fertilizers and pesticides genetic engineering , growth hormones , irradiation , and antibiotics

The productivity of organic food is lower than that of non organic food items . But it maintains the fertility of the land and its productivity in the long term process .
