The Oregon Trail The Oregon Trail in 1800s is considered as one of the most significant event in the history of the United States of America for it opened the way to the discovery of other territorial lands such as Washington Oregon , California , Nevada , Idaho , and Utah . The Trail was the only feasible way for settlers to get across the mountains ' which was located at the central part of the land (The Oregon Trail . American territories were few without the great discovery that took many lives out of danger along the trail

The Oregon was not part of the United States , and its saturation would mean to them another territory that they could claim . The journey took about five to six month on wagons and others by foot by hundreds of thousands of Americans that risked one out of the ten people to die because of cholera , poor sanitation accident , and chance gunshots

America then was a wild country there were no cities nor could railroads be found to follow . It seemed that there was no way to get through from the eastern end going to western part of the terrain because of Rocky Mountains and desert . The land was and unexplored only rumors and stories were heard about the place . This made many Native Indians to live peacefully in their territory only at some point of time because expeditions that followed through by brave men made to the discovery and saturation of many other important places in the history of America . Indeed , Oregon Trail paved the way for a united and powerful America The history of Oregon Trail has two parts , the discovery of the route which took about less than five decades , and the migration period , which lasted to almost two decades . Its discovery was attributed to almost many people . Previous challenges to find out what laid ahead the Oregon were recorded because no one really knew in the first place what the place could bring them . Besides , history of expeditions guided the future explorers to venture for another route . Likewise , each team gave important routes in maps after taking many wrong turns for tying to get through or out of the way

The first team who went out to be a successful expedition with the purpose of exploring the land was Meriwether Lewis and William Clark in 1803 , and in 1805 , they found the land through a passage in North America . John Jacob Astor made the second expedition in 1810 for fur trading whose ship was destroyed by Native Americans in the area Stuart who was with Astor during the journey was able to discover a 20-mile space in the Rocky Mountains , the passage where the wagons could pass . Pike and Long 's discovery stating that the passage was a great desert delayed the migration . Smith , a mountain man re-discovered South Pass was able to keep an accurate map of his route...
