Religions have noble aims . The major religions practiced by people in the world today all dream of a utopian future where everything will be in and all the troubles on earth would be solved . Humanity will learn to co-exist in peace and harmony and enlightenment . Every religion , thus , set guidelines as to how to achieve these ends . Every church elects leaders , issues doctrines , organizes a schedule of practices and rituals , and thinks of ways to

strengthen both the church and the faith of its members , all to - hopefully - attain the type of ideal existence for the whole world and even the afterlife . Unknowingly however , the variety and number of religions have created clashing ideas about almost every imaginable so that the role of religion in the life of an individual , and humanity as a whole , has become a paradox that confuses while it seeks to enlighten . One double-edged truth about religion is what Gordon Allport mentions as its ability to make prejudices and unmake prejudices

Most of the world 's religions , from Christianity to Islam , embrace the concept of loving one 's fellows . They teach about looking beyond the differences and accepting one 's fellows for who they are because in spite the divisions in race , gender and social classes , everyone is essentially similar to one another .
