`Onthe issue of fossil fuels, and the enviornment, who is the greater culprit, the producer or the consumer?

Fossil Fuel

The use of fossil fuel has generated much debate , especially concerning pollution and its effects on the environment . As a corollary , there are arguments concerning the liability for such harmful effects , and whether the blame should be put on the consumers or the producers of this product

Since almost all fossil fuel are consumed through burning or combustion , it is inevitable that it results in certain chemicals , such as carbon dioxide , as byproducts (The Greening

Earth Society , 2004 When produced in large quantities , such emissions contribute to environmental problems such as global warming and climate change (The Greening Earth Society , 2004 . On the other hand , carbon dioxide could be beneficial because it is a vital part of the water cycle

However , it is apparent that human consumption of fossil fuel has increased over the years . Indeed , in the United States , the consumption of energy has risen by a factor of 33 since 1850 (The Historical Price of Gas . This rise in consumption is not only due to increased consumption , but also to the increased number of consumers (The Historical Price of Gas

From the foregoing facts , I am of the position that there is no greater culprit with regard to the liability for damages to the environment caused by the use of fossil fuel . It cannot be denied that both consumers and producers benefit from such use . On the one hand consumers go about their usual business through the use of fossil fuel On the other hand , producers earn big profit because of high consumption rate . Considering such symbiotic relationship , it is but proper for these two stakeholders to have shared responsibility for the damages being posed by fossil fuel consumption to the environment . To this end both sides must undertake measures to minimize consumption , and more specifically , to find ways and means of negating the disadvantageous impact on the environment . It is not proper that only one side of the picture be considered , given that both stakeholders derive benefit from the enterprise
