Oedipus

The peculiarity of the story of Oedipus the King is based on untold but uncovered facts interlaced within the will of destiny , which eventually accelerates the revealing of the story . The past has the solution of the mystery of the present however , according to the story all the deeds committed in the past will not change the fate of the future

The gods of Sophocles represent the powerful forces operating within the cosmos , and influencing people 's fate by giving their approval or disapproval of their actions . Therefore judgment belongs to

the destiny Every detail of the story is contrived as to reinforce the conception of disturbed and restored . Parents of Oedipus were informed early of their son 's destiny , as a result they attempted to destroy him and thus prevent the tragedy of fate . Their plan was discontinued and in the final , was renewed because the destiny was allowed to realize its intentions . When Oedipus later learnt of his destiny , he made a decision to come back to Thebes , his native town , in to avoid his fate . As Oedipus would discover later , his deeds only accelerated his destiny to become true and thus he only propelled approaching of his misfortune

The past is placed in the center of the play and key to the mystery lies in the past . The overall form of the play shows the past enclosed with in the present . But the actions of the play show that in reality the present is enclosed in the past . Throughout the play each decision that influences the results of the present , was made in the past . The present outcomes were affected by past decision to keep Oedipus alive Past decision of Oedipus to come back to Thebes caused in the future revealing that on his travelling he had killed his father . But it was not uncovered until Oedipus had married his mother

At the beginning of the play Oedipus is described as a clever and generous ruler who takes care of his nation and is loved by it . Creon is another person . He has tyrannical qualities . He is convinced that the state is his ownership and he can do all possible and impossible deeds

The development of these characters ' fates and changes of their personalities can 't but impress . Oedipus wants to know who killed the king and he doesn 't stop even when he begins to guess the truth . He lost the battle with gods but he is not defeated
