OBESITY IN AMERICA Introduction Obesity is an epidemic of our own making and one of the most challenging public health concerns in America . From a small prevalence in the mid-twentieth century , obesity has aggravated to become a leading cause of mortality in the United States and the statistics are catching up in the rest of the world . With more than two thirds of the adults already declared overweight and more than half of them having attained a full-blown obesity status , American is indeed a fatty nation , and obesity is an epidemic

the county has to deal with . Paradoxically American consumerism culture is being fast tied to the same factors that have contributed to this trend . Increased consumption of fast foods decreased level of physical activity , sedentary lifestyle , and many others which define a 21st century American have seen obesity statistics peak with every new statistics released . The trends are worrying and the response just not adequate . About two decades ago , the rate of overweight among American adults was below the 50 prevalence rate and for children , it was less than a third of the current rate . This implies that the last two decades have seen drastic change in American dieting and lifestyle habits . Most Americans are concerned with the current trends and they have been seeking for solutions here and there . A recent study showed that 58 of Americans would like to lose their weight . This number is twice the number Americans who wanted to lose weight in 1950 . However...
