patient 's mental dis and to reduce the symptoms . However , the means of achieving this may vary from one of these professions to another . Both these therapies rely on talking comprehensively to the patient and asking them the appropriate questions in to get an in-depth of the condition and to know what the patient expects of the treatment . Both these treatment techniques rely on effective feedback from the patient before , during and after treatment to ensure that the patient is receiving an appropriate treatment management program (Hertzman , 1984 These common characteristics between the psychiatrist and the occupational therapist require close coordination during the treatment During the infancy stages of psychiatry , occupational therapy played a major role , and thus it can be said that psychiatry had its roots from occupational therapy . The relationship between the psychiatrist and the occupational therapist can be compared to a child-parent relationship one supporting and offering leadership to the other (Fidler , 1994 .Both , occupational therapy and physical therapy have similar objectives and these objectives are met in a similar manner . They aim to improve the strength , endurance , coordination , balance , problem-solving ability ability to self-help , object manipulation , etc . Both these therapies address performance of motor skills caused due to certain muscle dysfunction (The Jowonio School , 2007 . These therapies also ensure that the patient reclaims strength so that they could function in a normal manner within a short period of time (Careers in the Military 2007

The Occupational Practice Framework (OCP : Domain and Process focuses on the objective aims of occupational therapy , whereas the AOTA website concentrates on the subjective aims of occupational therapy . The OCP concentrates on the use of occupational therapy for daily application whereas the AOTA website concentrates on the need for occupational therapy to develop independence and lead a life filled with quality However , both the sites consider occupation to be daily activities performed at home or the workplace . The British COT considers more importantly the application and use of occupational therapy to various fields of life , whereas OCP considers it with references to daily application of occupational therapy
