Importance of resources in Central Asia

When the Soviet Union broke up in 1991 , five countries were given independence . Kazakhstan , Turkmenistan , Uzbekistan , Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan quickly became independent states . However , due to its location , Central Asia is still under the influence of the Soviet in trade and commerce . Its vast natural resources were largely untapped due to fear and reservations . But after foreign invasion in the Caspian Sea in search for oil resources , the oil exporting countries quickly rose and became active in the global energy market . The Central Asian region suffered heavy downpour in economic development immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union . Despite the vast natural resources , transporting them was difficult since the region is landlocked . Its distance from the sea limits the transfer of agricultural products . Add to this , the southern b of the Middle East was closed . Because of this , Russia still exerted economic influences in the region by channeling the region 's trade routes directly into it

However , the entry of United States in the former Soviet republic of the Caucasus gave way for economic boom in the region surrounding the Caspian Sea . The vast natural resources attracted foreign countries and investors that will have changed the course of the dismal economic performance of the region . Despite political and economic disputes between CARs , the major oil exporting countries , Azerbaijan , Kazakhstan , and Turkmenistan have gradually joined the global energy markets . This region in Central Asia is now regarded as key factors in international energy security

The lush energy resources attracted many foreign beginning with the United States . The entry of foreign investors brought about economic growth in the past 10 years . Since 1997 , the region experienced booming economic performance as shown in table 1
