Description of Theory : Florence Nightingale 's theory of environmental adaptation posits that the patient environment can be altered to allow recovery and healthy development . By further indicating that the nature cures , the theory continues to indicate that this environment should be optimized to give way for recovery . based on the assumption that the physical environments that a patient is treated in affect the effectiveness of a nurse to care for the patient and the rate of recovery . The physical , social and psychological environments reduce the overall patients stress and greatly improve on the healing process . This theory is unique because it formed the initial baseline for nursing as a practice . Particularly , it brought out the important relationship between a person , the environment , health and nursing as a practice this consideration helped greatly in redesigning of hospitals to give the correct environment for recovery

Theory 's Historical background : Though Nightingale 's intention was not to develop a theory , a consideration that makes understanding of its development limited , the theory came out effectively from her involvement in Crimean war and latter work .
