Night in the book is not only literally used , though it might as well be , but also figurative of the darkness experienced throughout the book . In numerous chapters , all four are clearly expressed and in some it is implied . All these themes are apparent in each pages of the book but it is death and faith which held greater prominence . Dehumanization in turn , looks into the peoples ' or prisoners ' being stripped off of the proper treatment for humans . Another theme in the book is the father - child relationship that involves the main character , as well as several other characters . However , this aims to look at faith more closely than death . In the same manner , death , faith and survival have intertwining instances within the book
