There are many conflicts that are experienced in the world today , where the parties involved are stubborn and are unable to find a solution to their problems . These kinds of conflicts are observed in all aspects of society which include politics , trade , religion and other social institutions . Some conflicts are so severe that they lead to loss of lives of people , during each day that they go unsolved . Currently there is a conflict between Israel and Palestine , which has claimed

more that a thousand lives , most of whom are non-combatants , including women and children . In such situations , mediation is the best way of finding a solution to the problems facing such societies

According to Abramson and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (2004 : 67-68 , mediation involves seeking ways of finding solutions to conflicts through coming up with agreements which are acceptable to all parties involved . However , the agreement is drafted by both parties and is not imposed by third parties . Agreements resulting from mediation are binding to all parties involved in the mediation process . Mediation is used in conflicts which range from civil lawsuits and divorces to international conflicts
