In every society , there exist several stories that could be considered as essential in shaping the cultures and beliefs in that society . This is evident in the conceived mythological stories and characters which would convey or reflect various aspects present in the society . These mythologies may be passed through writings or just through the word of mouth . These are handed down from generation to generation , and have been a distinction from other existing cultures . While some mythologies are considerably different from other mythologies , some are also similar in various

ways , either by the depiction of a certain issue , like the treatment for women , the personalities of characters , or the social issues tackled

Indian mythologies are a part of a large body of Indian literature dating back from old times . They are much like other mythological accounts , wherein there is a vast number of gods and goddesses , just like the gods and goddesses of Greek and roman mythology . These Indian mythologies are composed of the different beliefs and cultures of Hindus , passed of from generation to generation , cherished by both young and old . One of these Indian or Hindu mythologies is the Ramayana , or the travels of Rama

It chronicles the life and adventures of Rama , in his pursuit of her abducted wife , Sita . It is a battle between good and evil , as he is opposed by a high ranking being , a demon spirit known as Ravana . Ravana has abducted Sita , Rama 's wife in his intention to make her his own wife . Rama has set out a quest towards the whereabouts of Sita to save her , in the kingdom ruled by Ravana , which is Lanka . Rama was assisted by other forces , including his brother and other companions , which are all united to oppose Ravana and his army of evil spirits and wrong doers

Similarities

Ramayana as mythological writing has a lot of things in common as compared to the Greek Mythologies . There are various similarities evident , which may or may not be intentional , but considering that India was a colony of British powers , it is possible that there were influences in the molding of these great historical writings , not only from the part of Hindu writings but also in some of Greeks great stories . This is a manifestation of how different cultures communicate with each other , thus resulting to the intermixture of several aspects in both of them .
