Multiple sclerosis is a disease whereby an individual 's immune system attacks the spinal cord and the brain of the individual resulting to demyelization of the central nervous system of the individual . The disease was mot first in 1868 and it is common on females more than in men . Multiple sclerosis causes the nerve cells in the brain and those in the spinal cord not to communicate in the appropriate manner by attacking the myelin which is responsible for sending signals

between the brain and the spinal cord . The disease also causes scars in the brain and also in the spinal cord

The disease is classified into the following subtypes : progressive relapsing , secondary progressive , relapsing remitting and the primary progressive . Relapsing remitting subtype is a condition that involves relapses that cannot be predicted and then followed by a very long time of silence in which no more signs of the disease are noted . Secondary progressive multiple sclerosis is a condition in individuals who have initial multiple sclerosis and then they develop decline in their neurology activities but they do not experience periods of remission The primary progressive multiple sclerosis is a condition experienced by individuals who do not go into a period of remission after the first symptoms of the disease are noted in them . Progressive relapsing multiple sclerosis is a condition in individuals who from the time the first symptoms were noted , their neurological activities decline steadily
