The concept of multicultural education and cultural diversity is a concern to many educational scholars as gender , socioeconomic classes ethnicity , race , language and family configuration has resulted undefined diversity . Guskin (2005 ) acknowledges that cultural diversity among American learners has tremendously increased in the recent past with children emerging from different socioeconomic classes , ethnicity and races . to come from ethnic minorities and this is projected to increase to about 39 percent by the year 2020 (National Association for ME , 2006

However , the outstanding issue remains that of how does culturally diverse community caters for the need of its diversified subjects in relation to education . Therefore , the notion of multicultural education in relation to cultural diversity is a daunting issue that threatens educational outcomes (Bennett , 2005 . The competing viewpoints of various groups about multicultural education further complicate the issue . However , proper understanding the concept , theory misconceptions and application to learning institutions gives some useful insight into the issue .
