The Moral Status of the Cloning of Humans

The Moral Status of Cloning

Cloning has always been one of the most intriguing factors of the society which already generated a lot of controversial debates throughout the Western civilization . Based from the text that was given to us , I decided to embark on the argument which affirmed that cloning is a mere process that doesn 't block the right of an individual to be a unique creature (Tooley 167

There are primarily two objections that can be raised in relation with the argument . First is the violation of rights objection in

which the distinctiveness of a personality is considered as a compelling factor in one 's life . This objection believes that cloning will indeed threaten an individual 's future because he may feel excessive pressure to become like or different from its progenitor . This objection clearly believes that a person 's genetic makeup shouldn 't exactly match with anyone else as it advocates a strong belief for individuality . The next objection is the psychological distress which believes that cloned individuals really have the tendency to feel sad over the fact they were cloned . They might feel that their uniqueness is being compromised or that their future is already constrained because of the said fact . Constant evaluation of their self-worth would eventually result to considerable psychological harms and sufferings

However , these objections still couldn 't stop the proponents of cloning from doing extensive research to further provide accurate information The first mentioned objection shouldn 't be taken in a crucial manner because even though an individual has the same genetic makeup with others , it doesn 't make him less valuable . Cloned individuals no matter how identical ' they are will still differ in many facets of their lives . Having the same genetic makeup doesn 't actually connote that you also have the same choices for things . It all depends on the individual 's upbringing and the various events that will happen to his life . The next objection also gives an unsound impression because feelings always have the tendency to change and be irrational . If a cloned individual feels a psychological distress , it can be gradually diverted into other things

Generally speaking , these objections don 't really invalidate the argument . I believe that human cloning can be very beneficial to the society as it will demonstrate a remarkable test of human moderation and institutional awareness . The original context of argument can be critically reviewed again to better meet those objections . In that way the moral correctness of human cloning can be easily re-evaluated
