Moby Dick , a well-known novel , written by Herman Melville , is one of masterpieces of literature . We have to note that this work is interesting for its artistic multipronged narration . Documental narrations , which creates element of reliability in combination with unlimited fantasies , publicistic and philosophical reflections , deep psychoanalysis , social conditionality of heroes , realistic retrospective narration , irony of different kinds , sarcasm and tragedy - all this creates compound genre and stylistic unity

In such a way the main peculiarity of Melville 's work is the unusual combination of realistic

and symbolic vision of world by writer skillful ability to combine two types of thinking : rational (logical and mythological (pre-logical . Moby Dick ' is a novel of four components : it is a scientific , philosophical , bible and adventure . As far as it concerns mythological aspects , I want to examine the role of mythological elements as structural element of the novel (particularly its eschatological aspect ) and to see its contribution to some meanings or issues in the novel

Mythological motives and elements played great role in genesis of literature - mythological themes and personalities are widely used in literature of different kinds . Eschatology (Greek Eschatos '- the last ) is one of myth categories , which narrates about the most important events of the past - mythological times eschatological myths usually contain prophecy about the future doomsday . Eschatological myths don 't tell us about creation of world and its elements they narrate about their destruction

Mythological aspects of Moby Dick ' as structural element of the novel

Moby Dick or White Whale (1851 ) is the unique work , written in spite of all existing rules of genre . American critics of mid . XIX century considered this book a strange one . This feeling of strangeness which appears during reading , also exists nowadays . The novel is very difficult book and you cannot read it quickly . There are two reasons first is that each from 135 chapter of the novel calls to meditation , to thinking and probably , this is the highest praise to this masterpiece Thoughts , which appear during reading , concern not only the plot of novel , but also your own life , your time , your aim in life , etc

The second reason is in quality of the novel , in its organic structure and way of narration . Consequence of chapters and even the form of chapters is characterized by the kind of retellings , violating inertia of narration . You read about sea and storms and suddenly the author gives you classification of whales epic narration about life at the vessel is interrupted by monologues , dialogues and even by scenes in tragedy spirit then after the author presents abstract discussions Chain of plots and forms is incredible : dialogues , monologues scientific discourse , description of details of whaling , thinking about human 's destiny , the history of nations and governments , investigations of different religious systems - all seems not to have any sense , but actually , is dictated by a deep logics of author 's thought

Melville 's idea was that reader should re-read Moby Dick ' again and over again , finding there...
