Urbanization can be described as the relocation of people as well as the amount of production to urban centers from the rural areas . An increase in the human population has been attributed as a major contributor the rapid urbanization which is being experience in whole world . This rapid urbanization is raising concern due to the negative impact it has on the ecosystem . An increase in population has necessitated the construction of more urban centers

as well as industries in the urban areas . A recent study showing there has been a rise in urbanization in the past few years warns that this is bound to affect the future animals as well as the plants and also the availability of natural resources . This is because most of the cities which are being built do not consider the importance of nature and this may eventually lead to its extinction . The United Nations reports show that currently , more than 50 of the world 's population lives in urban areas and this is expected to rise to 60 by the year 2030 . The number of people living in the cities is alarming and this is expected to increase in the future . An increase in population and the search for jobs have contributed to this increase in rural-urban migration . While expanding the cities , consideration should be taken to ensure that nature is preserved and protected (Sherbinin , Carr , Cassels Jiang 2007
