In barely two months after I started my volunteer work with The Mercer Street Friends , I have learned firsthand the joys of being able to help the members of our community who are in desperate need of assistance and compassion . Here , specifically with The Food Bank , I have participated in distributing food supplies to different soup kitchens , community shelters , hospices for the troubled and the homeless , and other institutions that are

similarly established with the same intent as The Mercer Street Friends . From these experiences , I have discovered that true joy can only be attained if we are to forego with our own needs and worries , and focus our attention at being of service to those whose lives are beset with the lack of the simplest necessities , such as food

It is truly heartwarming that all my expectations upon joining the said group have all been met . As such , I had been expectant that this endeavor will provide me with countless opportunities to help others and indeed , it has been so . Perhaps if there is one aspect that differed from my previous expectations , it is in being surprised at having a personal attachment to the people that I have been able to help through the Mercer Street Friends .
