One important aspect of teaching English as a second language (ESL ) is the study of the language in written form . It is essential that aside from fluent spoken English , students , at a very young age , should be taught excellent written English so as to provide a strong foundation for them to achieve mastery in the usage of this language . As written English communication is an important aspect of different professions today , the students ' knowledge on the language should be established during their formative years to really learn good written English
