During the centuries that marked the transition from early Christianity to Medieval Christianity , Church benefited from the leadership of several great leaders . The most important among them were Pope Leo 1 and Pope Gregory I . Pope Leo I was an embodiment of Roman Catholics who resisted the barbarians conquerors twice during his lifetime and saved Rome . The first time was in 452 AD , when he saved Rome from Huns , and the second time was in 455 AD from Vandals , who did not went on massacring the city due to his intercession . The second

personality was Pope Gregory I who reigned from 590 to 604 AD . In fact he laid the foundations of Roman Catholicism in the middle ages . It was he , who selected the Augustine of Canterbury who brought the conversion of England to the Christian faith . He also developed diplomatic relations with the independent Western Roman Catholic and the Germanic tribes

The discussion of Roman Catholicism of Medieval times will be not complete without the conversion of Emperor Constantine in 312 AD , due to which Christianity moved from illegal to a legal and the most dominant religion in the Roman Empire . After the conversion , the church became very powerful and every new ruler have to profess faith to the church It can be said that the Medieval Roman Catholicism , church and state were combined with church becoming the legatee of spiritual administrative and intellectual resources for many centuries . Thus we can conclude that the Medieval Roman Catholicism played an important role in developing the early Christianity
