Abstract

The purpose of this is to examine the job of a teacher when developing , implementing and analyzing a curriculum unit . The unit will focus on the ocean and will incorporate literacy , social studies science and mathematics activities . The unit will also incorporate multicultural concepts and technology as well as ideas for English as Second Language

students . The will include an outline of the unit for a period of five days . Following the outline , an analysis will be offered that discusses the development of a unit with regards to effective teaching strategies and improving classroom management . The analysis will also include a personal analysis of the unit . This analysis will include research and current literature

The ultimate goal of education is to train well rounded citizens to participate in a democratic society (Bruner , 1960 Dewey , 1938 . The main question that educators and policy makers constantly strive to answer is , what shall we teach and to what end (Bruner , 1960 . The development , implementation and analysis of curriculum is an important process that teachers must go through in to ensure that what they are teaching students is helping to contribute to the overall goal of producing well rounded citizens .
