Maslow 's Motivational Theory

The theory emphasizes the use of scientific procedures to study the psychological , sociological , and anthropological aspect of human behavior in an organization . Indicates that management is not strictly a technical process , rather they stress the importance of maintaining a positive attitude towards people , training managers , fitting supervisory action to the situation , meeting employee 's needs , promoting employee 's sense of achievement and obtaining commitment through participation in planning and decision- making

Human needs are ranked on an ascending scale

according to how essential the needs are for survival . Abraham Maslow , who is also the father of Modern Management , perhaps the most renowned needs theorist , ranks human needs on five levels . The five levels in ascending are physiologic needs , safety and security needs , love and belongingness , self- esteem needs , and the need for self- actualization . Physiological needs include oxygen , water , food , sleep , sex and activity Safety Needs includes freedom from danger , threat and deprivation Belonging Needs includes affectionate relations , acceptance , recognition and companionship Esteem includes self- respect , positive self- evaluation and regard by others last is the Self- Actualization which includes self- fulfillment and achievement
