Manifest Destiny and the Civil War

America in 1850s was characterized by crisis and history is the witness for the malady that followed this crisis- the Civil War . A series of events that occurred in several parts of the country led to the inevitable Civil War and this war invariably shook the roots of the entire Nation

It began with Missouri 's request for admission to the Union

in 1820 Missouri 's admission as a slave state would have favored the Southerners and this request thus , instigated fear and concern among the Northern and Southern states of America , regarding the sectional balance and power , in the Congress and the federal government (which was nothing but a confederacy of the states . This fear was reinstated with the territorial expansion , and conflicts over newer territories eventually created several constitutional crises

These crises unfortunately led the country towards the Civil War , and this paper shall shed light on fact that expansion brought sectional antagonism to the boiling point , split the Democratic Party in the late 1840s , and set the nation on the path to the Civil War
