Management Policy
AMAZON .COM : THE MOST AGILE VIRTUAL ORGANIZATION Amazon .com , a virtual store that sells mainly books , opened in July 1995 to `offer products that educate , inform and inspire (as cited in Shaw , 2000 , . 490 . The concept was to build an online store that was user-friendly : easy to navigate with a wide range of selection . By using information technology , Amazon .com provides features to simplify store purchases . Specifically for its books , its search engine allows customers to search by title , author , subject , keyword , ISBN , publisher or date of publication . Other features include

1-ClickSM (a secure ing system ) and a of customers ' recommendations on specific books . I consider it as the most agile virtual organization of today because it is put forward as a low-cost , highly responsive and adaptable way to organize and compete in the face of extreme turbulence and uncertainty in the business environment . They have the adaptability flexibility and responsiveness to changing requirements and conditions of Internet buyers , evidenced by the fact that they have continually developed their website in to adapt to the said changing landscape . Likewise , they infuse a very high-level of information technology to support business processes and knowledge workers exceedingly apparent in their extremely visible Internet presence . A key component of the agility ascribed to Amazon .com is its human resources and the management practices associated with their human resources . The needs and requirements of the virtual organization under analysis are answered by the skills of each employee in contributing directly to the value chain of service design , marketing and distribution , thus contributing directly to the bottom line business performance of the company . As each member of Amazon .com contributes its core competencies the resultant team of human resources is excellent , geared appropriately and directly towards exploiting all presented opportunities . As a final observation , the Amazon .com organization is rigorous and effective in its management and exploitation of its intellectual capital (its knowledge ) while providing a satisfying work experience for its employees
