If better to be feared or loved

Machiavelli says that every prince ought to desire to be clement and not cruel , because good reputation helps a prince more than a bad one He also says as long as the prince keeps his subjects united and loyal ought not to mind the reproach of cruelty because with a few examples he will be more merciful than those who , through too much mercy , allow diss to arise , from which follow murders or robberies for these are wont to injure the whole

people , whilst those executions which originate with a prince offend the individual only

He mentions that it is impossible for the new prince to avoid the imputation of cruelty , owing to new states being full of dangers . He says that the new prince should be in a temperate manner with prudence and humanity . So that too much confidence may not make him incautious and too much distrust render him intolerable

Then a question arises in his mind : whether it is better to be loved than feared or feared than loved ? It is hard to choose both of them together . So Machiavelli says it is better to be feared than loved Because , he says , all the men generally are ungrateful , fickle , false cowardly , and covetous . He says they will be with the Prince , as long as the Prince has success . They will be ready to do anything for the Prince during his good time . But , when anything goes wrong , nobody will be as support to the Prince . He says , a Prince who relies entirely on their promises will be ruined when they are all turned against

There is a Christian saying most men are sinners than saints . So it is better to be bewaring of the things before to any loss . There is no use of repenting once things are out of control . Obviously for a Prince , it has to be the motive . Machiavelli says if the prince does not win love he avoids hatred . I true . Fear rules , but not gains good reputation . So , definitely it is better be feared as well as to be loved

Let us consider prince as a father , and common man as a child . Father should be commanding when it comes to the matter of guiding his child But he should not be the same way through out . Because kids develop fear complex towards father , and will stop communicating with the father They will look for alternative solutions for whatever issues they have That may lead them to step towards a wrong route . We all are surely aware of another thing kids will hardly listen to us , when we say things in harsh way . They start hating us and think us as villains of their lives . But...
