As the play begins , Macbeth 's image that opens to the public is that of an esteemed general , a dedicated husband , and a faithful subject of the king . For example , we see the way Macbeth bravely fights the rebels led by Macdowald . He fights

incessantly until he defeats and beheads him (1 .2 .27 . His loyalty is further demonstrated when he (together with Banquo ) sets upon the intruding Norwegians like lions pouncing upon hares . The encounter with the witches ' prophesies changes this image to draw out his ambitious personality , although he struggles with murdering the king : Duncan . Through the execution of an attack on his manhood Lady Macbeth manages to influence him into committing the first of his evil deeds . Due to this evil deed , Macbeth suffers fear and guilt and consequently commits more evil crimes . The obsession that grips him draws him into hallucination and insomnia . He endeavors to restore the already damaged manhood though it proves to be a hard task for him to successfully accomplish as can be seen in the way he proceeds to ruthlessly murder Banquo (a fellow general ) and also Macduff 's family this reveals a perverted image
