Lupus is an immune related disease that occurs as a result of the immune system fighting its own cells . The main cause of lupus has not been established , however when detected early , lupus could be managed . This report seeks to analyze the disease its various types symptoms and use of massage therapy to manage lupus

Lupus is an auto immune disease that is characterized by a hyperactive immune

system that attacks its healthy and normal cells . The results of these attacks are inflammation , swelling and damage to vital body parts such as the kidney , lungs , blood , joints and the heart . When the body is functioning normally , it makes antibodies which are proteins and these anti bodies are meant to protect and fight antigens such as viruses and bacteria (Seshan Jenette ,2009 ,234 . When one has lupus their body is unable to differentiate between antigens and other healthy body tissues . The immune system in the process of protecting the body directs the antibodies to fight the healthy body tissues instead of just fighting the antigens . This is what causes swelling pain and even the body tissues are damaged
